Rattlesnakes have heat-sensing organs on heads. These facial pits enable rattlesnakes to search out and strike, even darkness, warm objects for instance small animal prey. The eyes, which have vertically elliptical pupils, or "cat eyes," will also be a sign of rattlesnakes.
Western Diamondback Rattlesnake Striking
Each time a rattlesnake strikes its prey or enemy, the fangs unfold from the roof of the company's mouth, Just before it strikes, the fangs become fully erect for the outer tip on the maxilla. The fangs are hollow, and perform like hypodermic needles to inject the venom in the prey. Rattlers cannot spit their venom, but venom might be squirted out when it strikes for a stick or other hard object. Also, rattlesnakes can regulate the volume of venom they inject whenever they strike.
After striking a small rodent, the rattlesnake will release its prey, and abide by it until it dies.
